Liverpool reject Brendan Rodgers is savouring the moment as his Celtic was crowned Scottish Premiership champions for the sixth season in succession.
Celtic’s 5-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle today confirmed them the champions for a sixth consecutive season, and means that the Irishman’s team have secured the title without losing a game, winning 28 of their 30 Premiership fixtures.
And while speaking to the Celtic official website after securing the title with some games to spare, he had this to say.
“I’ve grown up with the club – and to be responsible to give the supporters that joy is really humbling for me.
“And it’s also a really huge thank-you to the players and the staff because they’ve been able to do it, been able to impose what we’ve been trying to work on, on the training field, and they’ve won it in this record time, which is great.
“
It really shows the devotion and the focus the players have had in their work as well as the staff. We never get tired of trying to get better, and of trying to improve. That’s something we’ve tried to impose on to the players and their mentality, and we always have to look to be better.
“And that’s allowed them to go into each game and look to demonstrate that and show that. So I’m really proud of the efforts they’ve put in, and to clinch the title without losing a game is, of course, a great achievement.”
Scot Sinclair is the hat-trick hero of the day, as Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong also found the net summing up the total score to 5 goals to nill to Hearts at Tynecastle.
They are 25 points better off than second-placed Aberdeen, with 86 points out 28 games and 28 wins, and an outstanding 35 more than Old Firm rivals Rangers.
Later this month they meet Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final – the same stage at which they were beaten by the Ibrox outfit last term.
