The Park Ridge hospital announced the successful surgery, of 10 month old baby Dominique who was born with four legs. She was born with two Spines, with her identical twin protruding from her neck and back.
She was transported, from Ivory coast to America, with support from an Ohio Based Organisation to undergo separation surgery, from the conjoined parasitic twin.
Foster mom, Nancy Swab, heard of Dominique condition from Facebook, and decided to host Dominique, within weeks of seeing the Facebook post, She flew her from Ivory coast to America. She was right there as she underwent the surgery involving five surgeons at advocate Children's hospital, on Park ridge Illinois on march 8th.
John Ruge, with Paediatric Neurosurgery, said the procedure was necessary. Doctors also worried that her heart and lungs wouldn't be able to keep up with the demands of supporting another half a body.
" you can imagine the strain on her small heart and lungs to provide nourishment to another almost individual, and that amount of mass and disturbance and that area would cause significant spinal problems as she grows" John said.
Doctors said, it's really complicated, they had to separate Bone, Blood Vessels and Nerves during the six hour surgery, and used some of the parasitic twin blood vessels to cover Dominique's Spine ,after the whole procedure, they said, Dominique is recovering very well, in a few weeks she will return to her family of birth.
But for the Foster mom, Nancy Swab, the baby who once had four legs changed her life.
" she has touched our hearts, she is a member of our family, but I think we know she'll go back to her loving family, but we will keep in touch, but this has changed our lives, she's pretty amazing."
